Failing to provide proper nutrition for children will have an impact on how the child will grow later. However, there are many Mommies who are still having difficulties in selecting the nutritional intake according to the children’s needs.
The cause for this matter may be lack of nutritional knowledge of the Mommy or because there are limited food choices for children. Another reason why many people fail in providing nutrition for children is because they don’t understand how to adjust the meal with the children’s age.
The aspects of healthy foods should also become an important consideration in providing nutrition for children.
Adjusting Food Intake with Age
In completing the nutritional needs of your children, of course, the first consideration is about nutritional aspect in children's food. But it is still considered insufficient since there are many other factors that must also be considered. One of them is paying attention to the children's age when giving that kind of nutritional intake.
The first is for babies aged 0 to 4 months. At this age, Mommy must give breast milk approximately seven times a day. At that age, the baby still relies on breast milk and does not require additional food intake.
Next is for babies aged 4 to 6 months. At this age, breast milk is still the vital need, up to 5 times a day. At that age, babies need additional blended food 2 times per day.
Then, for babies aged 6 to 9 months. At this age, Mommy may start reducing the portion of breastfeeding to 4 times per day, and Mommy can provide soft-textured food intake for the baby approximately 3 times a day.
Then, for babies aged 9 to 24 months. At this age, the baby should be given breast milk three times a day and also can start to have snacks according to the baby’s taste. The baby can still be given the formula with more alternate foods as baby nutrition.
At the age of 2 to 3 years, Mommy can start giving formula 2 times a day and 3 times the standard food and also 2 times snacks. Similar portions and food choices can also be given to the children aged 4 to 6 years.
In addition to the age factor, Mommy should also pay attention completely on the nutrient content of foods that Mommy can get out there. If Mommy chose to cook the meals for the children, Mommy should pay attention to hygiene aspects and also aspects of infant nutrition contained in the meals.
The attractiveness and also the food combination will also influence the children’s interest in consuming the meals that Mommy is serving.
